Cambridge Part 5
CAMBRIDGE GLASS ?Part V

WHEAT  SHEAF  DECANTER

We would like to be able to show this beautiful set in green, but believe that we are very fortunate to own it in crystal! This is a heavily cut pattern and was known as Cambridge 揥heat Sheaf No. 2660".   Only one of these is known in green Carnival.  It stands 12?high to the top of the stopper and is shaped much like the Buzz Saw Cruet. At one time, it was in the collection of Mr. & Mrs. Woody Funk in Lititz. PA. There are no known green 3 ½ oz. shot glasses.

NOTE: The shot glasses for this decanter and those for the Near Cut Decanter are of the same design.  Jack Adams and we agreed on that  some years ago.
A covered CRACKER JAR in purple is known in this pattern.  Very few of these have turned up and most are without the lid. It stands a bit  taller  than the better known Inverted Feather Cracker Jar but is not quite as wide. It is much more rare.

FORKS

This Cracker Jar has been attributed by carnival glass collectors to Cambridge Glass Co., and is on display in crystal form in their Museum. What is believed to be the only  iridized  green FORKS jar with no lid brought $275 in the 11/22/03 St. Louis auction of the Adams?collection.

To further complicate the scenario: We illustrate page 36  from the Cambridge Catalog clearly showing that their 揘EARCUT?design #2696 was produced in a table set, which is further proof that the design was produced in quantity by this company at some point.

Please notice the dual row of diamond facets on the finial, differing in this aspect, from the #410 Cracker Jar found in the 1909 Imperial Catalog.

NEARCUT DECANTER

Jack and Mary Adams visited us in the early ?0抯, while we still lived in San Diego. Jack commented upon seeing this set and the Wheat Sheaf set in crystal, that he had always wished for some green shot glasses to go with their NEAR CUT Decanter in green.  Apparently none were ever iridized. The Adams?green decanter having a clear stopper and a crack sold on Nov. 22, 2003 for $275.

How many green decanters are there? Possibly  two. They are extremely rare and desirable. They would rank near the top of the list of rare Cambridge Carnival. Mr. & Mrs. Ed Garner of Fresno, CA owned one, but their collection was sold in 1983. We do not know where that decanter resides presently.

A creamer, a tumbler,  and a few marigold Souvenir mugs are known in this NEAR CUT design. One of the mugs is stenciled: Souvenir of Amana, Iowa sold on Nov. 22, 2003 for $125. A creamer in light marigold sold in 1997 for $275. The incised pattern on creamer and mugs is the same, with flashed on stenciling applied to the smooth area above the design. Tumblers are of the same design as the mugs. There is no collar base on them. Bottoms were very likely factory ground. A marigold tumbler having stenciling around the top sold at $200 in 1997.

Our crystal decanter displays NEAR CUT on the lower portion of the handle. Other collectors have verified that marking to be on their examples,  as well.

揘EARCUT?NOVELTIES

Page 84 of the Cambridge NEARCUT Catalog displays the three shapes shown here. They are all listed under one number~2658. The examples found having a light marigold finish, were sometimes used for souvenir type merchandise in any of the three shapes. Lettering could be etched into the smooth marigold upper surface of the pieces.

*INSIGHT*

The Bible teaches that God is the justifier. Paul wrote, "He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him" (2 Corinthians 5:21)

Peter Marshall, the great Scottish preacher who became chaplain to the US Senate, expressed this eloquently:

"When we are honest with ourselves, we know that we were there too [at Calvary] and we helped to put Christ there. Because every attitude present on that hilltop that day is present with us now. Every emotion that tugged at human hearts then tugs at human hearts still.. Every human being was represented at Calvary, every sin was in a nail or the spear or the thorns, and pardon of them all was in the blood that was shed."
