Decorated Carnival Glass - Part 3
DECORATED Carnival Glass - Part 3
SILVER QUEEN: According to information from Bob Smith, longtime tumbler collector from MA., these tumblers are uncontested rarities. They rank right up there with the most difficult of tumblers to locate.
The SILVER QUEEN has a 5/8?band just below the rim and attached to it are five fancy scroll-like designs completely encompassing the tumbler. Marigold iridescence is strong. A bulbous-type pitcher such as are typical of Fenton production, and nearly identical to the Cannonball shape is known in the Silver Queen pattern. It sold for $25 in a 1994 auction. We display the more tankard-type pitcher having similar silver bands of design.
Tumblers have 10 wide panels on their interiors, a 3?rim and a 2 ¼?base. The height of the Silver Queen tumbler is 3 13/16?
Our photo of a SILVER QUEEN set displays vestiges of former silver paint across the prisms in the tumbler, and there is slight variation in the scroll painting. Individually applied enameling accounts for this. No painter can precisely duplicate any design. It sold in Dec. 2007 to Tom Burns who was in attendance for that particular Wroda sale in Greenville, OH.
DUGAN'S Decorated Peach Opalescent: Several issues of Butler Brothers Wholesale catalogs during the 1910-1911 period, advertise factory decorated shapes and patterns in peach opalescent . Caroline, Stippled Petals, Stippled Flower, Footed Cherries, Single Flower Framed, Single Flower and Dogwood Sprays are some of the basic patterns to look for.
The patterns we display are duplicated in some cases. We have done this in order to emphasize the fact that because there were several artists doing this painting, each applying their personal technique, the results offer 揹ifferent strokes from different folks? Each example is personalized.
It is quite possible that you may locate other basic colors and patterns having hand painting applied. We can verify at this time, that the patterns mentioned are the only ones we know to have been factory applied.
7 in. high x 2 in. collar base - no pontil - RED Glass!

VASE or Bottle?: This unusual piece is of red base glass, having multi-colored iridescence and nice hand-painting. The coastal scene within the indentation is somewhat time-worn, but Curtis' confirm that the lighthouse emanates a light source and trees, along with a 揷raggy?coastline are evident. Vestiges of a moon can be detected with a critical eye. No doubt this example is part of a line of art glass, but we have no clue to its origins.
Dean & Diane Fry - 7/08
Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations.
Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world,
even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.
You turn man to destruction, and say, 揜eturn, O children of men.?
For a thousand years in Your sight are like yesterday when it is past, and like a watch in the night..
For we have been consumed by Your anger, and by Your wrath we are terrified.
You have set our iniquities before You, our secret sins in the light of Your countenance.
For all our days have passed away in Your wrath; we finish our years like a sigh.
The days of our lives are seventy years; and if by reason of strength they are eighty years,
Yet their boast is only labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.
Return, O Lord! How long? And have compassion on Your servants.
Oh, satisfy us early with Your mercy, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days!
Let Your work appear to Your servants, and Your glory to their children.
And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands for us:
Yes, establish the work of our hands. ~~ (Psalm 90)
Psalm 90 is the only song in the book of Psalms directly attributed to Moses.
