Punch Sets - Part 4
PUNCH SETS - Part 4
FLUTE Variant: is so seldom seen that many collectors have not had the opportunity after many years of collecting. We noticed quite recently that a lovely marigold set with 5 cups and an opening bid amount of little more than $300, did not sell in an eBay ad. That was quite a nominal asking price for such a rarity! While the pattern is displayed in a 1909 Imperial Catalog, most books written about carnival glass do not include this Imperial Glass punch set and too many collectors do not understand the importance of researching other than such ordinary patterns as 損eacocks and good lucks? in their quest to build a collection.
Much the same unfortunate circumstance surrounds the Westmoreland Orange Peel sets. (Another Rare-So-What?) It really pays to investigate the virtual 搖nknowns? They are more worthy of collecting than many of the ugly rarities which gain far too much attention AND money!
HOBSTAR and FEATHER - Green
HOBSTAR and FEATHER: A 1909 Butler Bros. Catalog ad lists availability in crystal or 揳llover fired golden iridescent finish? If you will click on ~~ H ~~ in our pattern alphabet on the homepage, you may view a marigold set, along with other examples in this pattern. Probably the most famous example is that which offers the lovely Fleur-De-Lis interior in amethyst. Tulip top bowls are famously beautiful, as well.
Since this is a carry-over design from the crystal period of production from Millersburg Glass, the glass itself is quite thick and heavy to accommodate the imitation cut patterns.
WREATH OF ROSES: offers an opportunity to collect three types of interior design: Plain, Persian Medallion, or Vintage. The usual and basic Fenton Glass colors are available: Amethyst, blue, green and marigold. This set was advertised in a 1910 Butler Brothers Wholesale Catalog, indicating an early entry into the carnival glass spectrum.
