Fenton Vases - Part 8
FENTON Vases ?Part 8
At least 3 known - PANELED DANDELION Vase in Blue.
Courtesey Wroda Auctions.
PANELED DANDELION Vase: At least three of these are known. There is a rare variation having the handle attached on a mold seam. Tankard handles are typically applied on one of the six panels. (There is a round designated spot where the handle base is anchored.
Oct. 1909 Butler Bros. Catalog.
Marigold LONG THUMBPRINT - 6 inches tall.
Sold for - $115. Seeck Auction.
Faceted Base of LONG THUMBPRINT- 3 and 7/16 in. diameter.
Amethyst LONG THUMBPRINT - 5.5 inch Vase.
Sold for - $85. Seeck Auction.
LONG THUMBPRINT Vases: Please note the date on the 1909 Butler Bros. Ad done in the late Frank M. Fenton抯 hand! Another comment surrounding these vases: the earlier; and in some cases, carry-over molds from the crystal/opalescent period provide the lovely designs present on the base, such as seen on these JIP vases. It is difficult to capture the beauty seen in the many-faceted design which later molds lack. As the era of iridization progressed, concentration was placed on the outer design and the majority of the bases were free of design entirely. The marigold vase is 5 7/8?in height厖?a real gem and not often seen in this shape!
RUSTIC (Hobnail) (in a squeeze) Amethyst.
Courtesy Don & Becky Hamlet.
RUSTIC (Hobnail) Vase: This vase was part of a glass display used in a seminar presented by Tom Mordini during the 2010 www.cga Convention held at the Wroda Auction facility in Greenville, OH. He jokingly said: 揂nother name for this is the Mother-in-Law vase. It got 搕he squeeze?during the height of a disagreement?
Left - 10 inch FINE RIB Vase within a Wicker Sheath.
Right - 10 inch Ice Green FINE RIB - Courtesy Wroda Auctions.
FINE RIB: Considered the most commonly found Fenton vase, the 搒tandard?size, having a base of 2 ½?2 3/4? and a 搇arger standard?size with a 3?base, the color range is vast! Amber, amber slag, amber opal, amethyst, amethyst opal, aqua, aqua opal, blue, powder blue, celeste, green, lavender, lime green, lime green opal, marigold, moonstone, red, sapphire, vaseline and vaseline opal. Apparently, Fenton supplied the makers of those wicker 搒urrounds?(during the ?0s-early ?0s) with a possible 搕urn? to promote their product. An interesting fact: Sizes for these standard Fine Ribs range from 8?to 17? but it has virtually no bearing on price results. Mid-sizes: Blue, marigold and Vaseline. These have a 3 ¾?base.
PEACOCK GARDEN Vase.
Sold for - $4500. Seeck Auction.
PEACOCK Gardens: Although this design has been found in 搉ewer?vases of varying colors, some of the marigold examples have sold in the $4,000 range over the years. 8?vases in black amethyst and amethyst are among the 搎uestionable?colors. Reproductions make it difficult to discern the age, especially for unseasoned collectors.
APRIL SHOWERS - 11.5 inches in Marigold.
APRIL SHOWERS: There are squatty vases of 7?or less, found in amethyst, blue, green, marigold and white. Base size is 3 ½?on the squatty types, and the 8?15?sizes which are found in amethyst, amethyst opal, blue, green, marigold, red, vaseline and white. Some vases offer the Peacock Tail interior pattern.
Left - 11 inch FLUTE Vase in Vaseline.
Right - 11.5 inch in Cobalt Blue Fenton PANELS or FLUTE.
FLUTE: Seen mostly in marigold, these 8?11?vases having a 2 ½?base size, can also be found in more scarce colors of cobalt blue, smoky blue, green, vaseline, vaseline with marigold overlay, amethyst, red and amber.
Dean & Diane Fry, 11-11
And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations,
a thorn in the flesh was given to me,
a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure.
Concerning this think I pleased with the Lord three times that it might depart from me.
And He said to me, 揗y grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.?/FONT>
Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ抯 sake.
For when I am weak, then I am strong. (2 Corinthians 12:7-10)
