GALLOWAY Vase and Toothpick: Mid-Spring 1909 Butler Bros. Wholesale Catalog displays this vase. It continues to be advertised in years following, as well. The point to be made: Production was in clear crystal, indicating that the marigold application on this first-reported vase example would have taken place in some after-market process. Mr. Carmichael owns various shapes and color presentations in the pattern, but has never before found a marigold vase. It was purchased from an auction in Kansas. We cannot locate the toothpick among the Butler ads. It is another 搖nknown?in the carnival world. Seen in an assortment of clear glass tableware on page 154 - United States Glass Co. Export catalogue, 1919 U.S Glass From A to Z, by Heacock & Bickenheuser. Galloway pattern is #15071 in U.S. Glass production terms.
The amethyst Galloway toothpick has been found having the Ron Hansen signature.

PORTLAND: This mold was designed by Portland Glass Co., Portland, Maine, about 1880. Produced by one of the U.S. Glass conglomerates in 1901-1910. Existing examples indicate production in clear glass, with a gold metallic overspray. The creamer is 4?high. In terms of evidence within the Heacock & Bickenheuser book, #15121 was produced by Central Glass Co., Wheeling, W.Va., Factory O, Glassport, Pa, and Ripley & Co., Pittsburgh, Pa. in 1918. (in clear glass). (We have seen an example of this pattern at Christy抯 Auction House, in Greenwood, IN,  having the gold metallic trim.)
PORTLAND Vase Replica Blank successfully Blown桯istory was made by glassmaker Richard Golding and a specialist support team at Ruskin Glass Center. They created the perfect Portland Vase blank in front of an enthused audience. A nervous day of creativity was followed by a more nervous 12 hrs. waiting for the pieces to cool in the annealing oven before the team could confirm their hard work had paid off.
The Stourbridge 2012 Portland Vase will see a replication of one of the most significant pieces of glass in history: The Portland Vase. The poignant skill and talent to come out of Stourbridge抯 widely renowned Glass Quarter in many years is also notable as a celebration of 400 years of glassmaking in Stourbridge. The original Portland Vase dates back to AD5-25. According to the British Museum in London, it is the most famous cameo - glass vessel from antiquity.
The 2012 Portland Vase will be carved by Glass Engraver Terri Colledge at Ruskin Centre in time for the International Festival of Glass in August 2013.

MANHATTAN: #15078 in U.S. Glass reference, the pattern dates to 1902, produced at the Glassport, Pa. factory. A table set for the American market; with cake stands, and various shapes in covered serving containers shown in a 1915 Mexican catalog. These 搈arigold?examples appear to have the usual after-market application.

CHERRY SMASH Tumbler - Cecil Whitley Collection
CHERRY SMASH Tumbler - Cecil Whitley Collection.

CHERRY SMASH:  This design is seen in the April 1929 issue of Butler Bros. Wholesale Catalog. The overall pattern design is that of the Depression Era. You may view the berry bowl in one of our other segments. There are fewer of these tumblers than berry bowls in today抯 world.

WHIRLING STAR 11 in. bowl + 14 in. Chop plate.

WHIRLING STAR:  The 14?plate is probably the 11?punch bowl, flattened. We own this punch set. The base stands only 4 ½?high. The Imperial punch base in the same pattern is considerably taller. Both the U.S. Glass and the Imperial punch sets are quite scarce! The reproduction Imperial sets originally offered the (IG) trademark. (Beware the grinding and polishing of such evidence!)
Dean & Diane Fry, 6-12
My son, if you receive my words, and treasure my commands within you,
so that you incline your ear to wisdom,
And apply your heart to understanding; yes, if you cry out for discernment,
and lift up your voice for understanding,
If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasurers;
then you will understand the fear of the Lord,
And find the knowledge of God.
For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding;
He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly;
 He guards the paths of justice, and preserves the way of His saints.
Then you will understand righteousness and justice, equity and every good path.
(Proverbs 2:1-9)
