Smooth Rays and Stippled Rays
Fenton SMOOTH RAYS and STIPPLED RAYS
Fenton Assortment - Mid-Spring 1909.
1909 Butler Bros. Top - SMOOTH RAYS
Bottom - STIPPPLED RAYS
Both of the Rays patterns were produced early-on in the era of iridized glassware. The patterns are simple and utilitarian, intended for daily use, we believe. As with most patterns, when production began, the basic colors were marigold, blue, green and amethyst. Acceptance and demand increased the color line over time.

Fenton STIPPLED RAYS Compote - 4.25 in. high - 18 scallops - Blue.
STIPPLED RAYS Compote: The blue compote had been in the Rinehart collection for some 50 years when we purchased it at the Nov. 2011 Wroda Auction. Noting its rayed interior AND exterior, as well as the difference in the stem shape, from the 搖sual?compote stem, we have decided that this was a 搒ample? which apparently was never placed into production. We have not seen another. We welcome our viewers?research and comments.

STIPPLED RAYS: Bon-bons: Marigold, blue, amethyst and green, rare Vaseline. Compotes: Basic colors and some in celeste, ice green and Vaseline; 9 ½?bowls found in basic colors, (some having Scale Band exterior) in red, amberina, reverse amberina, aqua; rosebowl; Basic colors found in 6??7?plates; breakfast sets, which were apparently manufactured with both clear glass and iridized handles/bases. (Those pieces have 22 top scallops); 7 piece berry sets. Note: A couple of green Stippled Rays breakfast creamers have sold at auction since 2003, but no green sugars are on record. A rare-so-what for sure! The creamer which sold in 2008 brought $35.
The fact that this pattern extended into the late period when red was in favor, indicates the overall acceptability of the design. Hear, my son, and receive my sayings, and the years of your life will be many.
I have taught you in the way of wisdom; I have led you in right paths.
When you walk, your steps will not be hindered, and when you run, you will not stumble.
Take firm hold of instruction, do not let go; keep her, for she is your life.
Do not enter the path of the wicked, and do not walk in the way of evil.
Avoid it, do not travel on it; turn away from it and pass on.
For they do not sleep unless they have done evil;
and their sleep is taken away unless they make someone fall.
For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.
But the path of the just is like the shining sun, that shines ever brighter unto the perfect day.
The way of the wicked is like darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble.
